...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT NOW THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued an Air
Pollution Action Day for Friday August 1st for all of Illinois due
to wildfire smoke.

An Illinois Air Pollution Action Day is declared when weather conditions
are such that widespread ozone and or particulate levels are expected to
be at or above the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category of the
Air Quality Index for all or almost all of Illinois.

USG - Active children and adults especially people with pulmonary or
respiratory disease such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor
activity.

Unhealthy - Everyone should reduce prolonged activities or heavy exertion
outdoors. Active children, older adults, and people with pulmonary or
respiratory disease such as asthma should avoid prolonged activities or
heavy exertion outdoors.

Area residents are urged to reduce pollution levels. Air quality
forecasts, AQI cautionary statements, current air quality, and tips on how
you can reduce your emissions can be found at www.airnow.gov

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an Air
Quality Advisory for the following counties: Columbia, Dane,
Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Kenosha,
Lafayette, Marquette, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Sauk,
Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha.

WHAT...The PM2.5 AQI is expected to reach the Unhealthy level.

WHERE...All of Wisconsin

WHEN...Until noon Friday, August 1

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: Sensitive groups: Consider
rescheduling or moving all activities inside. Go inside if you
have symptoms. People with asthma: Follow your asthma action plan
and keep quick-relief medicine handy. People with heart disease:
Symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, or unusual
fatigue may indicate a serious problem. If you have any of these,
contact your health care provider. Everyone else: Keep outdoor
activities shorter and less intense. Go inside if you have
symptoms.

Additional Details: Canadian wildfire smoke will continue to
impact Wisconsin`s surface air quality over the next several
days. Widespread Unhealthy (Red) AQI for PM2.5 is expected across
Wisconsin on Thursday, with NowCast AQI values in the Very
Unhealthy (Purple) category possible. Conditions are expected to
slowly improve beginning Friday. However, Unhealthy for Sensitive
Groups (Orange) to Unhealthy (Red) AQI will remain possible
through the weekend. Conditions will be reevaluated on a day-to-
day basis through the weekend, including updates to the forecast
and any associated Air Quality Advisories.

The Iowa DNR has issued an Air Quality Alert for all of Iowa
through midnight Friday night.

Moderate to heavy smoke is expected to impact most of Iowa over
the next few days at levels considered unhealthy for sensitive
groups or even unhealthy for healthy individuals. Sensitive groups
include people with respiratory illness or heart disease,
children, teenagers, the elderly, and outdoor workers.

The DNR recommends that people avoid long or intense outdoor
activities and take frequent breaks until the air quality
improves.
