* WHAT...Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and
relative humidity between 8 and 16 percent.
* WHERE...Navajo Nation in Arizona, Little Colorado River Valley,
Kaibab Plateau, Marble and Glen Canyons, Grand Canyon Country,
Eastern Mogollon Rim, and White Mountains. This includes portions
of the Apache-Sitgreaves, Coconino, and Kaibab national forests.
* WHEN...From 11 AM MST /noon MDT/ this morning to 8 PM MST /9 PM
MDT/ this evening.
* IMPACTS...Rapid spread and growth of any new or existing fires.
Fires will have the potential to exhibit extreme fire behavior.
Elevated potential for new fire starts.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Do your part: No open flames or sparks, keep vehicles off of dry
grass, properly dispose of cigarette butts, and avoid power equipment
that creates sparks. One less spark, one less wildfire.
Obey all fire restrictions. To view a map of current fire

A red flag warning is issued when we identify weather conditions that
promote rapid spread of fire which may become life-threatening. This
does not mean there is a fire. These conditions are either occurring

.After a morning of very poor humidity recovery, humidity values
will plummet even lower this afternoon. Winds will continue to
increase through the mid to late afternoon with gusts of 35 to 45
mph being common, setting the stage for critical to extreme fire
behavior. Winds will decrease some around sunset, but will still
remain breezy, if not locally windy, in several locations overnight.
This will be coupled with another night of poor humidity recovery.
Another round of critical to extreme fire weather conditions is then
expected across southwest, central and eastern New Mexico through
the day Monday with even stronger wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph across
eastern New Mexico. Several hours of single digit humidity values
are expected across east central and southeast New Mexico again
Monday afternoon.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR TODAY AND MONDAY...
.An upper level trough carving out over the Central Rockies will
bring increasing southwest winds to the region over the next
couple of days, while Relative Humidity values remain very low,
and fuels remain critically dry. Winds will continue to increase
through the afternoon, topping out at 20 to 25 MPH with gusts as
high as 40 MPH. Winds will stay elevated overnight tonight for
east and north-facing slopes, but with some variability and
lighter periods, and will increase again for Monday, once again
topping out around 20 to 25 MPH, with gusts around 45 mph. In
some areas, winds will be strongest in the mid to late morning
hours.

afternoon, tapering off in most areas after dark. Winds will
return with similar speeds Monday morning and early afternoon,
then taper off to gusts around 30 mph Monday evening.
