...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CHST MONDAY...
...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY
AFTERNOON...
* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 9 to 11 feet and dangerous rip
currents expected in the surf zone.
* WHERE...West and north facing reefs of the Marianas.
* WHEN...Until 6 PM ChST Monday.
* IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best
swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A significant pulse of northwest to north
swell is moving into the Marianas, increasing surf to hazardous
levels exceeding 9 feet and bringing a high risk of rip currents
along west and north facing reefs. Hazardous surf and dangerous rip
currents are expected to subside next week as the background trade
swell becomes dominant once more. Surf will likely subside below
hazardous levels along west facing reefs first, as the primary
swell energy shifts more directly from the north.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers
should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip
current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If
able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
