Hydrologic Outlook
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV

...Higher than normal water levels in creeks and streams in Inyo
County through the Memorial Day Weekend...

Even though snowmelt flow rates peaked early in the week, automated
stream gauges indicate creeks continue to run high and fast with
cold water. Temperatures are forecast to hover a few degrees from
average through the Memorial Day Weekend suggesting streamflows will
stay about the same as current conditions, or may actually subside
some. With all creeks, streams and rivers at higher than normal
levels there remains a risk of minor flooding. For your safety,
abide by all agency road and campground closures.

All agencies have taken steps to alleviate flooding as much as
possible by clearing debris from channels and culverts, installing
new and/or reinforcing existing infrastructure. As a precaution,
some roads and campgrounds susceptible to flooding are closed.

Those heading to the southern Sierra Nevada and Owens Valley this
weekend should know they may encounter some flooded roads and
campsites. Remember, never drive through flooded roadways or around
barricades. Pastureland or farmland adjacent to creeks, streams and
rivers could experience flooding, as well as large areas of standing
water.

For further information on Inyo National Forest Campgrounds go to:
fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd486882.pdf

Due to their swift currents and very cold water temperatures, creeks
and streams pose life-threatening dangers. Extra caution should be
exercised as exhaustion or unconsciousness from hypothermia could
set in quickly. Always wear a properly fitted life jacket for all
water activities.
