An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the following agencies:

Colville Confederated Tribes
Environmental Protection Agency

An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Asotin, Chelan, Douglas,
Ferry, Okanogan, and Stevens Counties through Wednesday 11 am due
to current and expected wildfire smoke from regional fires. Areas
immediately downwind of active and emerging fires in Washington
and Oregon may reach Unhealthy levels of particulate matter
(PM2.5). When air quality is unhealthy, everyone should reduce
exposure. Limit time outside, avoid strenuous outdoor activity,
and follow tips for cleaner indoor air.

QUALITY FOR Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Lewis, and Nez Perce
Counties...

* WHAT...Air Quality Advisory because of degraded air quality due to
  wildfire smoke. Air Quality Index is forecast to be Unhealthy for
  Sensitive Groups.

* WHERE...Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Lewis, and Nez Perce Counties...

* WHEN...Until noon July 29th (outside of reservation boundaries).
  For the Nez Perce Reservation, the Air Quality Alert remains in
  effect until 10 am July 31st.

* IMPACTS...Members of sensitive groups may experience health
effects. The general public is less likely to be affected.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Air pollutants can cause breathing difficulties for children, the
elderly, as well as persons with respiratory problems. Those
individuals who are sensitive to increased particulate matter or
smoke are encouraged to avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor
activity during this advisory. Open burning is prohibited by air
quality rule. It is also recommended that all other individuals
limit prolonged or strenuous activity outdoors.

...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT...

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air
quality alert for Beaverhead, Blaine, Broadwater, Cascade, Chouteau,
Deer Lodge, Fergus, Granite, Jefferson, Judith Basin, Lake, Lewis and
Clark, Liberty, Meagher, Mineral, Missoula, Petroleum, Pondera,
Powell, Ravalli, Sanders, Silver Bow, Teton, Toole, Phillips, Hill
counties in effect until 9AM on 07/29/2026
An Air Quality Alert means that particulates have been trending
upwards and that an exceedance of the 24 hour National Ambient Air
Quality Standard (NAAQS) has occurred or may occur in the near
future.

Elevated particulate levels from wildfire smoke

As of 6AM on 07/28/2026, particulate levels in Billings, Hamilton and
Helena are Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

As of 6AM on 07/28/2026, particulate levels in Butte, Columbia Falls,
Cut Bank, Dillon, Frenchtown, Great Falls, Havre, Lewistown, Libby,
Malta, Missoula, Sleeping Giant and Thompson Falls are Moderate.

When air quality is Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups... State and local
health officials recommend that people with respiratory or heart
disease, the elderly and children should limit prolonged exertion.

When air quality is Moderate... State and local health officials
recommend that unusually sensitive people should consider reducing
prolonged or heavy exertion.

...AIR QUALITY ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON PDT WEDNESDAY...

Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality
Advisory until noon PDT Wednesday.

For the Smoke Air Quality Advisory, wildfires burning in the region
combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach
unhealthy levels.

Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate
heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health
problems.  Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it
is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung
condition.

* IMPACTS...Those who experience health effects from smoke include
  children under 18, elders, pregnant women, people with asthma
  or have difficulty breathing, diabetes, heart problems or
  otherwise compromised health, and people who have high exposure
  (those who work, exercise, or spend extensive time outdoors).

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Under the most severe pollution level, sensitive groups should avoid
outdoor exposure and limit indoor activities, and everyone should
restrict their outdoor activities.
