...EXTREME HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 10 PM
MDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with limited overnight recovery.
  Afternoon high temperatures around 110 in the lower elevations,
  with overnight lows in the upper 70s to low 80s

* WHERE...Lower Washington County and Zion National Park.

* WHEN...From noon today to 10 PM MDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
  extreme heat events.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

...EXTREME HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM MST WEDNESDAY
BELOW 4000 FEET...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions below 4000 feet, with daytime
  temperatures ranging from 106 degrees at Havasupai Gardens, to 115
  degrees at Phantom Ranch.

* WHERE...Lower elevations of the Grand Canyon.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM MST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Most individuals will be at risk for heat-related
  illnesses without effective cooling or adequate hydration,
  especially with prolonged outdoor exposure.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

This warning is reserved for only the hottest days of the year and
is issued when temperatures are expected to rise to dangerous levels.

Day hikers on Bright Angel Trail should descend no farther than 1
1/2 miles from the upper trailhead. Between the hours of 10 AM and 4
PM, hikers should be out of the canyon or at Havasupai Gardens or
Bright Angel campgrounds, physical activity is discouraged. All
hikers should have adequate gear, including a wide-brimmed hat,
sunscreen, salty snacks, sufficient water, and electrolyte mix.
Doubling your calorie intake helps maintain your energy.

Weather Watch, which is in effect from Tuesday morning through
Tuesday evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...In Nevada...Fire weather zone 461.

* TIMING...from 11 am PDT until 10 pm PDT Tuesday.

* WIND...South winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

* HUMIDITY...7 to 14 percent.

* IMPACTS...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
  Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has
issued the following...

WHAT...Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke.

WHERE...Saguache, San Juan, Hinsdale, Mineral, Archuleta, Rio
Grande, Alamosa, Conejos, southern Mesa, Delta, Gunnison,
Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Dolores, Montezuma and La Plata
Counties. Locations include, but are not limited to Saguache,
Silverton, Lake City, Creede, Pagosa Springs, Del Norte, South
Fork, Alamosa, Conejos, Delta, Gunnison, Montrose, Nucla, Ouray,
Telluride, Dove Creek, Cortez, Durango, Hermosa, Honeyville and
Rockwood.

WHEN...900 AM Sunday July 13 to 900 AM Monday July 14

IMPACTS...Multiple wildfires across the region will produce
moderate to heavy smoke through at least early Monday morning.

HEALTH INFORMATION...Public Health Recommendations: If smoke is
thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain
indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease,
respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider
limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present.
Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is
making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in
your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northwest Colorado, southwest
Colorado, west central Colorado, east central Utah, northeast Utah
and southeast Utah.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Hot and dry conditions keep temperatures trending in excess of 5
degrees above average. Terrain based showers and thunderstorms on the
terrain increase this afternoon with dry lightning and gusty
outflows possible under collapsing storms. Wildfire smoke will remain
visible across the southern half of the CWA.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Hot and dry conditions will continue through the week. Afternoon
showers and storms on terrain will remain in the forecast, increasing
in coverage through the week. Increased moisture will slowly erode
chances for dry lightning later in the week. Wildfire smoke will
remain visible for much of eastern Utah and western Colorado early
this week. Wetting rains later in the week could help diminish smoke.
