MTZ001 (MTZ001)

NWS Spokane WA -
ID 017 (Bonner County)...ID 021 (Boundary County)

* WHAT...An Avalanche Warning is in effect from Wednesday 7 AM to
Thursday 7 AM. Very dangerous avalanche conditions will reemerge
from another round of heavy rain and strong winds - this time
climbing up to 8,000 feet. It will be very easy to trigger
avalanches large enough to bury or kill you, and many will
release spontaneously. Avoid travel in avalanche terrain during
  this period.

  Mountains above 4,000 feet.

* WHEN...In effect from Wed 07:00 PST to Thu 07:00 PST.

* IMPACTS...The next potent atmospheric river will deliver copious
amounts of rain to an already stressed snowpack across the
mountains of North Idaho and Northwestern Montana. The rain line
will spike to around 8,000 feet on Wednesday and quickly
overload buried weak snow layers. It will be very likely for
backcountry travelers to trigger dangerous avalanches and
natural avalanches are likely. Avalanches will break wide across
terrain features and run long distances to lower elevation
  slopes.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Travel in, near, or below
avalanche terrain is not recommended during this period.

Consult http://www.idahopanhandleavalanche.org/ or www.avalanche.org for

Hydrologic Outlook
National Weather Service Missoula MT
1233 PM MST Wed Dec 10 2025

The flood watch has been cancelled, but hydrologic impacts remain a
minor threat through Friday morning. The break in the rain is
allowing creeks and streams to flush out and build capacity for the
next round of moisture tomorrow. This next round will still cause an
increased risk of rock falls and some ponding of water in low lying
areas.

Warm overnight temperatures will cause some snow melt in addition to
another round of rain coming in. So further stream and river rises
are expected, but at this time we do not expect further rises to
measure up to the level of floods.
