...AIR QUALITY ALERT REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM CDT THIS
EVENING...

* WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air
Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index
(AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category.

* WHERE...Southern Minnesota.

* WHEN...Until 11 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience
health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung
disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older
adults, may experience health effects.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heavy smoke will linger across southern
Minnesota though the day on Monday. This band of smoke will
slowly drift to the south throughout the day and air quality will
begin improving from north to south within the alert area. Air
quality should improve across southern Minnesota by the end of
the day.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including
asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, should
avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. The general public should
limit prolonged or heavy exertion.

Reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution,
such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning
devices. Reduce vehicle trips and vehicle idling as much as
possible.

Keep windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting
indoors.

...AIR QUALITY ADVISORY ISSUED FOR CENTRAL, WEST-CENTRAL, AND
SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN...

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an Air
Quality Advisory for PM2.5 which will remain in effect until
midnight tonight. This advisory affects people living in the
following counties: Adams, Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Columbia,
Crawford, Dane, Dunn, Eau Claire, Grant, Green Lake, Iowa,
Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon,
Marquette, Menominee, Monroe, Outagamie, Pepin, Pierce, Portage,
Richland, Saint Croix, Sauk, Shawano, Taylor, Trempealeau,
Vernon, Waupaca, Waushara, Winnebago, Wood.

Due to Canadian wildfire smoke, the air quality index is expected
to reach the UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS level. People with
heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should reduce
prolonged or heavy exertion.

The Iowa DNR has issued an Air Quality Alert for the northernmost
four tiers of counties west of I-35 as well as the northernmost
tier of counties east of I-35 through 11 pm tomorrow. Smoke from
Canadian wildfires has entered the region from the north and fine
particulate levels at or above the national standard can be
expected. The DNR recommends that people avoid long or intense
outdoor activities, and take more breaks during outdoor activities
until air quality conditions improve. Members of sensitive groups
may wish to take additional precautions. Sensitive groups include
people with respiratory or heart disease, children, teenagers,
the elderly, and outdoor workers. This alert will expire at 11 pm
