...INCREASED FIRE DANGER THIS AFTERNOON...

The combination of low fuel moistures, low relative humidity, and
gusty northwesterly winds will result in elevated fire danger
conditions this afternoon. Conditions will be favorable for
outdoor fires to grow quickly, increasing the danger of a
wildfire.

Elevated fire danger conditions may also be experienced on
Saturday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether
you can burn. If you do, you are advised to use extreme caution.

1100 AM EDT...

At 1001 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from Murray Town to near Honey Island. Movement was
east at 40 mph.

Half inch hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Wilmington, Leland, Carolina Beach, Burgaw, Wrightsville Beach, Kure
Beach, Surf City, Snows Cut, Rich Inlet, South Masonboro Island,
Figure Eight Island, North Masonboro Island, Rowan, Hampstead,
Boiling Spring Lakes, Lake Waccamaw, Northwest, Sandyfield, Topsail
Beach and Penderlea.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Thunderstorms can pose a variety of threats including gusty winds,
small hail, cloud to ground lightning, and localized flooding. It is
recommended that you remain indoors until the storms pass.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

...ELEVATED FIRE DANGER THIS AFTERNOON...

Elevated fire danger conditions are expected to develop this
afternoon behind a dry cold front. Minimum relative humidity
values expected to drop to 20 to 25 percent with wind gusts
upwards of 25 mph at times. The combination of the low relative
humidity, gusty winds, and drying fuels will lead to elevated fire
danger conditions into this evening.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether
you can burn today. If you do burn, you are advised to use
extreme caution.

THIS EVENING...

Gusty winds and low relative humidity will develop this afternoon
across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia. Fuels will dry
out quickly this afternoon, which will create conditions ripe for
an increased risk of wildfires.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether
you can burn Friday. If you do burn, use extreme caution since
fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
