Flood Watch

Flood Watch
National Weather Service Billings MT
1019 AM MDT Sun Jun 9 2024

...The Flood Watch continues for the following rivers in Montana...

Clarks Fork Of The Yellowstone near Belfry affecting Southeastern
  Carbon zone.

Clarks Fork Of The Yellowstone at Edgar affecting Southwestern
  Yellowstone and Northern Carbon zones.

.Thunderstorms over the Beartooth mountains this afternoon and
evening may produce moderate to locally heavy rainfall over a primed
snowpack above 8500 feet. If this occurs it would result in the
snowmelt rate increasing significantly, with flows in the river
rising quickly. The latest river models suggest levels could reach
bankfull, or minor flood stage, late tonight into the day on
Monday. The probability of reaching minor flood stage is around 40%
at this time, and will be dependent on exactly where showers and
thunderstorms develop.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you are in the watch area, remain alert to possible flooding.

Residents and those with interests near the river should monitor
rising water levels and be prepared for possible Flood Warnings.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency officials and
request they pass the information to the National Weather Service in
Billings.

A Flood Watch means that flooding is possible. Now is the time to
prepare for action in the event flooding occurs.

The latest stages and forecasts for rivers and streams can be found
at our web page: https://water.weather.gov.

The next statement will be issued Monday afternoon at 1230 PM MDT.
