* WHAT...Heavy snow expected with snow levels 6,000 to 7,000 feet.
Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet, except around 3 feet over
the highest peaks.
* WHERE...A portion of central California.
* WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 5 PM PDT Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and
blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The
hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday
morning commutes.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for
the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with caution and be prepared for sudden changes in
conditions. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead
of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations 8 to 16
inches between 7000 and 9000 feet and 1 to 2 feet above 9000 feet.
Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.
* WHERE...Eastern Sierra Slopes.
* WHEN...From 5 PM Monday to 5 AM PDT Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel may become difficult on Highway 168
west of Bishop due to icy and snow packed roads. Whitney Portal
will observe sharp deterioration in conditions with extreme danger
to hikers and campers unprepared for the winter weather.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Persons should consider delaying travel in the Sierra. If travel is
absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a
winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire

below 3000 feet, 2 to 5 inches in the higher valleys, especially
along Highway 2 Happys Inn to Marion, and 6 to 12 inches in the
mountains. The Cabinet and Purcell mountains could receive a total
of 12 to 18 inches. Gusty easterly winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts
to 40 mph, though gusts to 50 mph are possible in the higher
elevations.
* WHERE...Highway 2 Kalispell to Libby, Highway 93 Eureka to
Whitefish, Highway 56 Bull Lake Road, and Highway 37 Eureka to
Libby.
* WHEN...Until noon MDT Monday.
* IMPACTS...The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may
down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Initial
light rain or melting snow will freeze as temperatures drop this
evening, creating hazardous conditions even in areas that see
little snow accumulation. Expect considerable disruptions to
normal activities. Dangerous or impossible traveling conditions in
the backcountry. Avoid travel in the impacted areas if possible.
