Peak Wind /Estimated/: 70-80 mph Path Length /statute/: 13 miles Path Width /maximum/: N/A Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 1 Start Date: 06/09/2024 Start Time: 0909 pm EDT Start Location: Irwin Start Lat/Lon: 34.6959/-80.8254 End Date: 06/09/2024 End Time: 0916 pm EDT End Location: 4 NW Liberty Hill End Lat/Lon: 34.5210/-80.8350 A National Weather Service storm survey team determined that straight line winds associated with a line of severe thunderstorms was responsible for the extensive tree damage that occurred in western Lancaster County Sunday evening. Maximum wind gusts were estimated to be around 70 to 85 mph. The straight line wind damage began in eastern Chester County. In Lancaster County, the more substantial damage occurred in the western part of the county, from just southwest of Lancaster down through the Irwin, Bell Town, and Blakely Crossroads areas. Numerous large hardwood trees were uprooted and many large branches snapped and power lines downed, with the most significant damage in Irwin and and along Highway 200 south through the county border. The county Emergency Manager reported one indirect injury when a person drove into a downed tree on Highway 97 near Ember Lane. && NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ JAQ/LV
