.DISCUSSION...

Today will again experience breezy west-northwest winds, which are
expected to be gusting 35 mph up into the lower 40s throughout the
afternoon hours. With minimum relative humidity values from the
mid/upper 20s to lower 30s, elevated fire conditions are possible,
though given the current status of the grasslands overall fire
danger will remain low. Friday will see variable winds across the
area, largely from the south for areas west of I-29, transitioning
towards the northerly direction east of I-29. Could see some light
showers along the SD/NE border tomorrow, with chances for light
showers expanding northwards across the rest of the area into the
overnight hours.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR FRIDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
