Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Honolulu HI
914 AM HST Sat Jun 8 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
Light winds and dry conditions persist through the weekend. Trades
then gradually strengthen through the period bringing a return to
a more typical breezy trade wind pattern by the middle of next
week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...

Mostly clear skies this morning as a very dry and stable airmasws
characterized by an inversion height around 4kft remains
entrenched over the state. Warm conditions again today as light
trades persist. Upper ridge centered directly overhead shifts
north and east early next week allowing the trade wind belt to
strengthen and rebound northward over the area. This will bring
about a return to a more typical breezy trade wind pattern by the
middle of next week.

&&

.AVIATION...

Light trade winds will strengthen slightly to become locally
breezy by this afternoon and continue to gradually strengthen
into Sunday. Localized sea breezes will still be possible in the
more wind-sheltered leeward areas today, with some cloud build-
ups as well. Shower activity will continue to remain limited with
dry air and high pressure in place over the region. A strong
inversion will keep any ceilings quite low, allowing for periods
of MVFR conditions. Otherwise, VFR conditions will prevail. No
AIRMETs are currently in effect, nor expected today.

&&

.MARINE...

Elevated surf will continue along S facing shores for the next
week. A fresh pulse of long-period swell will arrive Sunday into
Monday, and a High Surf Advisory remains posted for S facing
shores. This swell will gradually diminish through midweek, but
additional pulses of S swell will arrive into next weekend. Small
N and NW swells will support small surf along N facing shores the
next couple of days. Tiny surf will prevail along E facing
shores, with a slight upward trend by midweek.

A surface ridge just N of the islands will move N and strengthen
the next couple of days, with trade winds increasing back to
climatological speeds Sunday into Monday. A Small Craft Advisory
(SCA) is likely for the windier waters around Maui County and the
Big Island starting tonight. Little change is expected thereafter.

.HFO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
