...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM...

.NEAR TERM...
(Tonight)
Issued at 250 PM CDT Tue May 28 2024

Going in this evening, breezy winds from the afternoon will
diminish after sunset with light winds expected overnight. Cu
field will also dissipate after sunset with the removal of daytime
heating and temps are expected to drop into the upper 50s to low
60s under clear skies with drier air in place. Widespread fog does
not look likely but a few spots could see brief visibility
reductions late tonight into early Wednesday morning.

.SHORT TERM...
(Wednesday through Friday)
Issued at 250 PM CDT Tue May 28 2024

Synoptic set up for the short term timeframe will be characterized
by broad mid-level troughing across the eastern U.S. and ridge
over the Plains states which will slowly shift eastward through
Friday. A series of shortwaves will dig through the base of the
eastern trough across the Great Lakes region while additional
energy embedded in the prevailing northwesterly flow over the
local region will pass Wednesday into Thursday. As the ridge
pushes eastward Thursday night into Friday a more potent shortwave
will deepen over Nebraska/Oklahoma on the western extent of the
ridge bringing weather changes for the weekend. For the short
term, this will result in periods of passing cloud cover as well
as low end precipitation chances (less than 20 percent) Wednesday
into Thursday. A few stray lightning strikes will be possible
during this time. Rainfall with this activity will remain light
with no severe weather expected. Temperatures will top out in the
mid 70s to mid 80s all three days with lows continuing in the
upper 50s to low 60s.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Friday night through Monday)
Issued at 311 AM CDT Tue May 28 2024

Upper level troughing moves over the Tennessee Valley and
continues eastward Friday before a shortwave trough begins to
influence the area from the west. This will bring increased rain
chances (30% or less) that evening. Medium shower/storm chances
(30-60%) stay in place through the weekend with any storms that
form capable of producing lightning, gusty winds, and small hail.
High temperatures are forecast to reach the low to mid 80s with
overnight lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s.
