In 1816, the "Year Without A Summer" saw a snow storm
hit parts of New England. Wind-whipped snow produced
drifts around 20 inches high in Danville Connecticut and
flurries were observed in Boston. The "Year Without A
Summer" was caused by the Ultra-Plinian Eruption of Mount
Tambora that occurred on April 10th and 11th, 1815. The
Tambora Eruption was about 100 times more powerful than
the May 18, 1980 Mt. St. Helen`s Eruption and lowered
global average temperatures 5.4 degrees (F). It took
nearly 5 years for Earth`s average temperatures to return
to normal.
