...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1879, a tornado outbreak struck Kansas and Western
Missouri.  In North Central Kansas, tornadoes killed 18
in Delphos, and 30 in Irving.  Two tornadoes struck
Irving within a few minutes of each other, virtually
wiping the small Kansas community off the map.The
second tornado was huge, around 2 miles wide, and had
multiple vortices.
