240 FXUS64 KLCH 070434 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 1134 PM CDT Thu Jun 6 2024 ...New AVIATION... .UPDATE... Wx map shows weak pressure gradient over the region, resulting in mostly light and variable to calm winds. Radar clean of any echos, with mostly clear skies noted on satellite imagery. Temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s this evening expected to fall into the upper 60s to lower 70s by daybreak. No updates needed to ongoing forecast. 08/DML && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Saturday night) Issued at 340 PM CDT Thu Jun 6 2024 Building high pressure will create nice and sunny weather for the next 48 hours. This is certainly a relief from the near-constant MCS and storms of the past week or so. Current hand analysis of 500 mb shows the 590 dm line in east Texas, with heights building to the west. Models are in good agreement that this ridge will continue to build over the next few days, with the NAM being the most aggressive and showing heights of 594 this weekend. Other models show a less intense ridge, but they are in good agreement on the general location of the ridge. PoPs this weekend will be on the low side, with the best chance for rain coming with afternoon showers and storms. Rain will return to the forecast on Sunday night as another disturbance makes its way across the region. High temperatures will be in summer shape, with highs in the mid-90s and heat index values in the low triple digits. Lows will be in the low to mid-70s. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday through next Wednesday) Issued at 340 PM CDT Thu Jun 6 2024 Unsettled weather pattern is expected next week as generally zonal flow with several disturbances track across the region Mon-Wed. This will bring slightly cooler temps compared to the weekend with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Rain chances will also return as these disturbances track across the region. By late next week, uncertainty exists as to how expansive a ridge of high pressure builds from the west and a disturbance possibly developing across the east GoM/SE US. This could push temps back into the lower and middle 90s and/or increase rain chances once again for the area. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 156 PM CDT Thu Jun 6 2024 FEW/SCT low clouds around 035/050 ft this afternoon with light winds. Skies clear overnight with generally SKC tomorrow. Light winds will continue. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1133 PM CDT Thu Jun 6 2024 VFR conditions and winds less than 10 knots are anticipated through the period. && .MARINE... Issued at 340 PM CDT Thu Jun 6 2024 Light west to southwest flow this morning will trend more offshore through the morning into afternoon as a weak frontal boundary sags south over the coastal waters. Drier conditions and a light generally offshore flow will then persist through tonight, with onshore flow resuming over the weekend as high pressure moves east of the area. Another front will move southward over the coastal waters by early next week, bringing the next chance for rain and another period of light variable to offshore flow.onditions and a light generally offshore flow will then persist into Friday, with onshore flow resuming over the weekend as high pressure moves east of the area. Another front will move southward over the coastal waters by early next week, bringing the next chance for rain and another period of light variable to offshore flow. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
