Flood Advisory Issued for the Humboldt River at Battle Mountain until further notice. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 222 AM PDT Thu May 23 2024/ SYNOPSIS... Active pattern continues through Saturday as a couple of storms move through the region, leading to chances of precipitation. A ridge of high pressure is forecast to bring much warmer and drier conditions across the district next week. SHORT TERM...Thursday through Friday. A chilly start to Thursday is expected across northern Nevada after a cold front passed through the region. Morning lows across northern Nevada in the mid 20s to mid to upper 30s look to be on track for this morning. Model guidance continues to show relatively dry conditions through today across the forecast area. Highs are forecast to be generally in the upper 50s to mid 60s. Afternoon highs trend up a bit higher on Friday, with highs in the mid to upper 60s, with some areas seeing just over 70 degrees. In terms of precipitation on Friday, another disturbance is advertised to impact the region. High elevation showers may start in the early morning hours, and become more widespread into the late morning and afternoon hours. This activity is forecast to continue into Friday evening. LONG TERM...Saturday through next Thursday. A strong low pressure system and cold front is expected to move southward Saturday, bringing widespread showers and gusty west- northwest winds to the CWA. A 25-30% chance of isolated to scattered thunderstorms is possible across much of eastern Nevada during the afternoon and evening hours. The system and front exits the region Saturday night with dry and quite conditions by Sunday. Highs for the weekend will be in the 60s to 70s with lows in the 30s and 40s. Dry conditions expected to continue into early next week as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Intermountain West. Winds will be fairly light through Tuesday but southwest winds will increase by midweek as a trough slowly moves into the Pacific Northwest. Highs will rise into the lower to mid 80s and overnight lows in the 40s. AVIATION... VFR conditions expected for the next 24 hours at all terminals. Expect winds of 10 to 15KT with occasional gusts to 20KT across northern and central Nevada through today. KEKO is AMD not SKED due to communication issue. HYDROLOGY...As high elevation spring snowmelt continues, many streams and creeks coming off snow covered terrain will experience elevated flows. This week`s cooler temperatures have slowed the rate of snowmelt, however elevated flows persist. Late this weekend and into next week as warmer temperatures return, expect flows on many creeks and rivers to rise again, possibly up into action stage. Wildhorse Reservoir is in action stage. Recent cooler temperatures are allowing the reservoir level to gradually lower, however the level is expected to remain in action stage all week. Humboldt River at Battle Mountain has reached action stage, so a Flood Advisory has been issued until further notice. && .LKN Watches/Warnings/Advisories... None. && $$ 95/90
