Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Elko NV
1223 PM PDT Tue Jun 11 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Above average temperatures in the 90s continue over
through mid-week, with near record temperatures in spots this
afternoon. Dry but breezy conditions look to continue the next
several days, with temperatures cooling back down by next weekend.

&&

.SHORT TERM...This afternoon through Wednesday night.

Dry and fair weather condtions are currently being observed
across the state and is expected to continue with zonal flow
across the area. Winds will be light and variable for the most
part, except for occasional gusts this afternoon. Highs this
afternoon are forecasted to be in the upper 80s to mid 90s with
lows in the 50s.

Wednesday, more of the same can be expected, with mostly sunny
skies, and above average temperatures in the upper 80s to mid 90s
with lows in the 50s. Winds Wednesday afternoon will be breezy,
with a west to southwest wind 15-25 mph gusting as high as 30
mph, with the strongest winds across central Nevada.

.LONG TERM...Thursday through next Tuesday.

Thursday, there may be some isolated showers across the area
during the afternoon as a closed low looks to get hung up over
the Sierras. Some moisture will spill over into the Silver State,
however with how dry the surrounding environment is, the chances
of these showers are < 15% so no weather is mentioned in the grids
currently. The most likely situation is that these conditions
will lead to cumulus buildups, possible virga and breezy winds.
Highs will remain above average with forecasted highs in the upper
80s to mid 90s, and lows in the 50s.

Friday through Tuesday, zonal flow will gradually bring
temperatures back towards normal, with highs in the upper 70s
Sunday and beyond. Lows are forecasted in the 50s through Friday
night, and in the 40s each night after. Winds in the afternoon
will continue to be breezy, with occasional strong gusts.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR conditions are expected at all terminals over the
next 24 hours. Anytime after 15Z Wednesday southwest winds will
strengthen over KELY and KTPH, with gusts 25-30 KTS, While
westerly winds gusting to 20kts are possible at KEKO. KWMC and
KBAM during the afternoon Wednesday.

&&

.HYDROLOGY...Temperatures will continue to reside warmer than
average thru Thursday before cooling several degrees Friday and
the weekend. This will allow remaining high mountain snow-pack to
continue to melt at a quicker rate. Dry and mostly sunny weather
is expected, with little threat of showers or thunderstorms
bringing a rain on snow event this week as well.

The Humboldt River near Battle Mountain will continue to reside
in action stage for the next several days.

Wildhorse Reservoir will continue to reside in action stage for
the next several days.

Lamoille Creek will continue to reside in action stage for the
next several days. Diurnal fluctuations in height and discharge
will also continue with the creek peaking during the evening
hours. The creek may briefly enter minor flood stage while at peak
evening flow.

The Jarbidge River receded below action stage However, flows
remain swift and caution should be exercised if recreating near
