Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
158 PM CDT Sun May 26 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING FOR RELATIVE
HUMIDITY VALUES AS LOW AS 4 PERCENT, 20 FT WINDS GREATER THAN 20
MPH, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER...

.DISCUSSION...

Another critical fire weather day with humidity as low as 5 percent
and elevated 20ft winds in the mountains. Given ERCs in the 97th+
percentile and critically dry fuels, a Red Flag Warning has been
issued for the far western regions and mountains through this
evening. On Monday, 20ft winds decrease but conditions remain
extremely dry with poor morning recovery and another day of near-
critical fire weather is expected for the Guadalupe Mountains and
surrounding plains. Better moisture returns with lower fire concerns
Tuesday and beyond with storms out east which may bring a lightning
threat and gusty and erratic winds.
