602 FNUS54 KMAF 260110 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 810 PM CDT Sat May 25 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT /9 PM MDT/ THIS EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20 FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND ADJACENT WEST TEXAS SOUTH THROUGHT THE CHINATIS... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20 FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS OF WEST TEXAS, DAVIS, CHINATI, AND DELAWARE MOUNTAINS, DAVIS MOUNTAIN FOOTHILLS, MARFA PLATEAU, AND CULBERSON COUNTY PLAINS... .DISCUSSION... Extreme fire weather conditions this afternoon with humidity as low as 4 percent and 20ft winds exceeding 30 mph across the west. ERCs are at the 97th+ percentile with extremely dry fuels and RFTIs of 7- 8, so a Red Flag Warning is in effect through this evening. Recovery tonight will be poor across the west and south, and afternoon humidity once again falls to 5 percent with no improvement in fuel moisture, so a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for tomorrow afternoon. 20ft winds decrease a bit on Monday but humidity will still fall to critical levels with poor overnight recovery, so one final day of near-critical fire weather will be possible. Tuesday and beyond, better moisture moves in and storm chances increase for the eastern counties, decreasing fire weather concerns somewhat. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
