The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a

* Special Marine Warning for...
  Albemarle Sound...
  Alligator River...
  Croatan and Roanoke Sounds...
  S of Currituck Beach Light NC to Oregon Inlet NC out to 20 nm...

* Until 800 PM EDT.

* At 627 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing
  waterspouts were located along a line extending from near The Mouth
  Of The Perquimans River to 14 nm northwest of The Vicinity Of
  Belhaven, moving east at 35 knots.

  HAZARD...Waterspouts, wind gusts in excess of 50 knots, and large
           hail.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
           hazardous seas. Boats could suffer significant structural
           damage in high winds and hail. Small craft could capsize
           in suddenly higher waves.

* Locations impacted include...
  Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, The Center Of The Albemarle Sound,
  The Center Of Croatan Sound, The Vicinity Of Frying Pan, The Mouth
  Of The Perquimans River, Alligator River Bridge, Nags Head, The
  Vicinity Of Mashoes, Ar140, Ar130, Oregon Inlet, The Vicinity Of
  Gum Neck, The Center Of Roanoke Sound, Duck, and The Mouth Of The
  Alligator River.

Carolina...and the adjacent coastal waters.
