Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
1254 PM MDT Wed Jun 5 2024

.DISCUSSION...High pressure begins to build over the Northern
Rockies today through this weekend. Forecast confidence remains
high that daytime high temperatures in valleys will warm into the
80s for western Montana, and into the 90s for north central Idaho,
through this weekend. Saturday still looks to be the region`s
hottest day, with temperatures potentially reaching 90 degrees in
select valleys of western Montana. Isolated locations in the
lowest valleys of north central Idaho could even see the first 100
degree day Saturday, particularly if cloud cover does not
influence temperatures and keep them from reaching their full
heating potential.

By Sunday, thunderstorms are re-introduced into the forecast for
central Idaho and parts of western Montana, though confidence
remains low due to major discrepancies between model solutions.
If antecedent conditions remain favorable, there is a 20-30%
probability that north central Idaho (including Grangeville and
Orofino) could see afternoon and evening thunderstorms. We will
continue to monitor the thunderstorm potential as more details
unfold.

The majority of ensemble forecast members show high pressure
rebounding over the western United States, putting the Northern
Rockies back into a dry and warmer than average pattern for early
to mid next week.
