Area Forecast Discussion

.DISCUSSION...
A strong high pressure to the south will continue to push showers
north of the islands through Saturday. Breezy conditions and fair
weather is evident as the ridge dominates over the territory.
However, model data depicts moisture embedded within the trade
wind flow moving through the Islands Saturday. Expect southeast
winds of 10 to 20 mph with isolated showers tonight and Friday,
becoming scattered Saturday through Sunday due to the incoming
moisture.

By Monday, the ridge will move further east and weaken in the
area. This pattern will shift winds eastward and allow the trough
to the north to descend over the Islands on Tuesday. Expect an
uptick in showers for the remainder of the forecast period due to
the trough.

.Marine...
Large seas and surfs were evident in low-lying areas this morning
as ocean debris and inundation were reported by our spotters
along the south shores. A strong south swell is the culprit for
the current impacts. Although latest wave heights observed via
SoFAR Buoy data are around 9 to 12 feet, peak periods of 15
seconds and above keep surfs at warning levels (15 feet) through
tonight. Surfs will gradually diminish through Friday, but a
small craft advisory will hold through the new week due to breezy
conditions.
