133 FXUS65 KRIW 062326 AFDRIW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Riverton WY 526 PM MDT Thu Jun 6 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - Above normal temperatures continue through the upcoming weekend. - A weak cold front to the northeast will bring some showers mainly for higher elevations late Friday and Saturday. - Another wave to the northwest will bring a chance for showers to the western mountains on Sunday. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 203 PM MDT Thu Jun 6 2024 Warm temperatures have continued today under strong early summer ridging. Expect this ridge to keep warm temperatures in place through the upcoming weekend into early next week. While the ridge may be holding place, there will be a few weak systems trying to push around the ridge through the weekend. The first one is moving into SW ID currently, and may spread a few showers into the western mountains tonight. Lack of instability will keep these showers light, with minimal accumulation. The second system sweep by to the north east later Friday and Saturday. While this second system sweeps a weak cold front through northeast WY, impacts for our CWA will be minimal, with a slight downtick in temps for Johnson and Natrona County Friday. There may be enough cooling aloft to bring a little more instability for more shower activity, especially over higher mountain peaks of the Bighorns, and greater Natrona County. Another system will sweep across the northern Rockies Sunday. Latest model runs have brought this system a little closer to northwest WY for Sunday, bring a little more moisture along from the Pacific, and occurs during peak heating. This is bringing a better chance for rainfall for all of NW WY, but chances remain low for any accumulation of 0.25". && .AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z SATURDAY/... Issued at 523 PM MDT Thu Jun 6 2024 Mainly light winds will continue through tonight, with the exception of breezy gusts 15 to 20 kt at KRKS, KBPI and KPNA. Those winds will diminish after 02Z. Scattered to broken high clouds across the northwest will spread southeastward across the state after 07Z. VFR conditions will prevail through the 24-hour period. Winds will increase once again Friday afternoon but remain below 20 kt for the most part. KRKS could see higher gusts to 25 kt. There is a chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms developing in the afternoon, but confidence at this time is too low to include them at any of the TAF sites. Please see the Aviation Weather Center and/or CWSU ZDV and ZLC for the latest information on smoke, icing, and turbulence forecasts. && .RIW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
