635 FXUS63 KUNR 261028 AFDUNR Area Forecast Discussion For Western SD and Northeastern WY National Weather Service Rapid City SD 428 AM MDT Sun May 26 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - Showers and Thunderstorms today - Warmer and drier for the first half of the week with thunderstorms returning for the second half of the week. && .DISCUSSION...(Today Through Saturday) Issued at 151 AM MDT Sun May 26 2024 Current surface map places weak trough across the Northern Plains. A few showers located across southeastern Montana into northwestern South Dakota associated with weak impulse moving through eastern Montana/northern Wyoming. A stronger shortwave is located along the Idaho/Montana border. Showers linger across northwestern South Dakota early this morning with initial wave. Second shortwave moves through Wyoming into western South Dakota/Nebraska late this afternoon with shower/thunderstorm coverage increasing. Severe thunderstorms are not expected due to weak buoyancy. Upper level ridge builds across the Northern Plains Monday/Tuesday with warmer/drier conditions. High reach the mid 70s/lower 80s on Tuesday/Wednesday Upper trough moves into the northern Rockies Wednesday and into the Plains for the end of the week. This will bring a daily chance of showers and thunderstorms along with slightly cooler temperatures. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS Through 12Z Monday Morning) Issued At 422 AM MDT Sun May 26 2024 Patchy MVFR/IFR conditions associated with low stratus/fog have moved into central through southwestern SD.
