Skies remain clear over much of central Iowa while exiting clouds continue over eastern Iowa and clouds associated with the showers northwest are spreading into northwest and western Iowa early today. Temperatures are in the lower to mid 50s north and northwest to the mid to upper 50s in the south. Winds are generally light northwest over central to eastern Iowa while light winds are occurring over the northwest. A patch of morning showers will move southeast over the region this morning with a few rumbles of thunder possible. As we move into the afternoon hours, the chances for a few stronger storms increases from noon northwest through about 7 pm in central and eastern Iowa just prior to sunset. A few storms may produce strong winds and possible hail today. With outdoor activities still in full swing for the holiday, stay weather aware during the afternoon and early evening hours. Highs will reach the mid to upper 60s north and northeast while the remainder of Iowa will see highs in the 70s to around 80 southwest. Tonight and beyond: Tonight the area will quiet down once again with a few lingering showers northeast to midnight. After a cool front passes southeast, lows will fall to the upper 40s northwest to the lower 50s south and east. Tuesday yet another weak system in northwest flow will track across the Northern Plains and arrive in Iowa by mid to late morning. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon. Highs Tuesday will reach the mid 60s northeast to the mid to upper 70s southwest. Tuesday night will be clear and cooler with lows in the mid 40s to around 50 south. We finally catch a break from the active weather with a beautiful day Wednesday and most of Thursday. Highs each day will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s northeast while the remainder of the state will see 70s. By late Thursday afternoon, another system will bring shower and thunderstorm chances to the region into Saturday. Highs late in the week will remain in the lower to upper 70s; slightly cooler Friday than Thursday and Saturday, due to the more widespread shower chances. $$ REV
