Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
451 AM CDT Sat Apr 27 2024

Today:

Conditions across the state have settled down overnight after a very
bumpy Friday that brought significant severe weather to portions of
the state. Temperatures have remained nearly steady in the 50s and
60s and will not fall much further before daybreak.

Showers and storms are likely once again today, particularly by mid
to late afternoon and into the evening hours. Some of the storms may
be strong to severe, capable of producing large hail and damaging
winds. A few tornadoes also cannot be ruled out. The most favorable
area for severe weather resides across southern into central Iowa.
Those with outdoor interests should have a sheltering plan ready and
have multiple ways to receive warning information.

Tonight and beyond:

Additional showers and storms are likely tonight and into Sunday. A
severe weather threat may develop once again by the afternoon and
evening hours, however considerable uncertainty remains as rain and
cloud cover may limit the extent of the threat. The pattern remains
active into next week with more storm chances passing through the area
on Tuesday, and again later in the week. Temperatures remain near to
above normal with highs in the 60s and 70s.
