SOUTHEASTERN MARION AND GREENWOOD COUNTIES THROUGH 145 AM CDT... At 1243 AM CDT, trained weather spotters reported a strong thunderstorm near Burns, or 12 miles southeast of Florence, moving east at 55 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. SOURCE...Trained weather spotters. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Eureka, Cottonwood Falls, Madison, Strong City, Florence, Hamilton, Burns, Cassoday, Bazaar, Virgil, Elmdale, Matfield Green, Cedar Point, Eureka City Lake, Hymer, Eureka Airport, Thrall, Wonsevu, Tallgrass Prairie, and El Dorado Lake. This includes Interstate 35 between Mile Markers 76 and 115. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If on or near El Dorado Lake, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm. Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until this storm passes.
