Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Elko NV
315 PM PDT Mon Jun 10 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Extended period of dry and fair weather this week
with afternoon breezes and temperatures residing warmer than
normal. Cooler this weekend with slight increases in probability
of precipitation across northern Nevada early next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday Night

Any showers and thunderstorms present across central Nevada will
dissipate and come to an end thru this evening and the first half
of the night. Otherwise mostly clear skies and light to calm winds
can be expected with low temperatures in the mid 40s to mid 50s.

A closed upper low resides offshore of SoCal Tuesday with
generally zonal flow across the forecast area. Dry and relatively
benign weather is expected with some afternoon cumulus over the
region, particularly central Nevada. Westerly afternoon breezes
can also be expected with gusts around 20 mph. Breezes will be
focused across northern Nevada given the stronger flow regime.
Warmer than average temperatures will be present with daytime
highs in the mid 80s to mid 90s and overnight lows in the 50s.

&&

.LONG TERM...Wednesday through next Monday

Deterministic models and ensemble guidance brings a closed low
along the Southern CA coast to our CWA starting Wednesday. Not
much changes are expected other than a relatively zonal flow
pattern that will keep conditions quiet and dry. Winds will be
breezy out of the west with locally higher gusts. Highs will be in
the upper 80s to lower 90s with lows in the upper 50s. By next
weekend, a strong Pacific NW trough and cold front approaches the
state, bringing cooler temperatures, gusty winds, and chance of
precipitation mainly across northern NV. Highs will be in the
upper 70s to mid 80s with lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR conditions expected for the next 24 hours with
light winds of 5-15 knots at all terminals. Cumulus build-ups
will develop this afternoon with a few showers and thunderstorms
possible in portions of central and eastern NV, including near
KELY. Storms are expected to diminish by the mid to late evening
hours.

&&

.HYDROLOGY...Temperatures will continue to reside warmer than
average thru Friday before cooling several degrees this weekend.
This will allow remaining high mountain snow-pack to continue to
melt at a quicker rate. Dry and mostly sunny weather is expected,
with little threat of showers or thunderstorms bringing a rain on
snow event this week as well.

The Humboldt River near Battle Mountain will continue to reside
in action stage for the next several days.

Wildhorse Reservoir will continue to reside in action stage for
the next several days.

Lamoille Creek will continue to reside in action stage for the
next several days. Diurnal fluctuations in height and discharge
will also continue with the creek peaking during the evening
hours. The creek may briefly enter minor flood stage while at peak
evening flow.

The Jarbidge River receded below action stage earlier today and
the river flood advisory has been ended. However, flows remain
swift and caution should be exercised if recreating near the
river.
