Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
236 AM CDT Tue May 21 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Fire weather concerns begin to increase over the next few days as
very dry air is forecast to move into the region from Mexico. RH`s
will remain low through the period with mid and late week seeing
the most extreme and widespread values below 5 percent. Winds
don`t look particularly strong during this period, but it won`t
take much for a fire to spread with this very dry air in place.
While ERCs across the Permian Basin have returns to near or below
normal with the recent rain, further west this is not the case as
ERC values climb above the 97th percentile this week. Given this,
any increase in wind could lead to critical fire weather
conditions.
