603 FXUS65 KRIW 062027 AFDRIW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Riverton WY 227 PM MDT Thu Jun 6 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - Above normal temperatures continue through the upcoming weekend. - A weak cold front to the northeast will bring some showers mainly for higher elevations late Friday and Saturday. - Another wave to the northwest will bring a chance for showers to the western mountains on Sunday. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 203 PM MDT Thu Jun 6 2024 Warm temperatures have continued today under strong early summer ridging. Expect this ridge to keep warm temperatures in place through the upcoming weekend into early next week. While the ridge may be holding place, there will be a few weak systems trying to push around the ridge through the weekend. The first one is moving into SW ID currently, and may spread a few showers into the western mountains tonight. Lack of instability will keep these showers light, with minimal accumulation. The second system sweep by to the north east later Friday and Saturday. While this second system sweeps a weak cold front through northeast WY, impacts for our CWA will be minimal, with a slight downtick in temps for Johnson and Natrona County Friday. There may be enough cooling aloft to bring a little more instability for more shower activity, especially over higher mountain peaks of the Bighorns, and greater Natrona County. Another system will sweep across the northern Rockies Sunday. Latest model runs have brought this system a little closer to northwest WY for Sunday, bring a little more moisture along from the Pacific, and occurs during peak heating. This is bringing a better chance for rainfall for all of NW WY, but chances remain low for any accumulation of 0.25". && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 1126 AM MDT Thu Jun 6 2024 VFR conditions expected at all TAF sites through the period. Light winds and clear skies mainly to start the period. Winds pick up some at BPI, RKS, and PNA after 20Z with an approaching weak system to the northwest. Winds will diminish with radiational cooling after around 02Z with increasing upper level clouds through the afternoon and evening. Light winds less than 10kts for sites east of the Divide. Dry conditions expected with no other weather elements forecasted. The exception may be some showers approaching KJAC after 07Z but not enough confidence to include in the forecast at this time. Increasing winds on Friday toward the end of the period, still 20 kt or less. Please see the Aviation Weather Center and/or CWSU ZDV and ZLC for the latest information on smoke, icing, and turbulence forecasts. && .RIW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
