618 FXUS66 KSGX 071104 AFDSGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Diego CA 404 AM PDT Fri Jun 7 2024 .SYNOPSIS... There will be a slow cooling trend through Sunday with Sunday high temperatures a few degrees above average for the deserts and as much as 4 to 8 degrees below average for the Inland Empire. There will be warming for Monday and Tuesday of next week, then slow cooling for Wednesday and Thursday. The marine layer will mostly fluctuate between 2000 and 2500 feet deep keeping coastal areas cooler with night and morning coastal low clouds extending inland into portions of the valleys. There will be slightly stronger onshore flow into the weekend with gusty southwest to west winds for the mountains and deserts for each late afternoon to late evening with the strongest gusts in the northern Coachella Valley below the San Gorgonio Pass to around 50 mph. && .DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE... SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES... .SHORT TERM (Today through Sunday)... High pressure will begin to weaken across California today with a weak low pressure system moving to near the California coast on Saturday night, possibly lingering off the southern California coast for Sunday and Sunday night. There will be a slow cooling trend through the weekend. The intense heat in the deserts will lessen some with high temperatures for locations in the lower deserts that exceeded 110 on Thursday mostly 105 or less on Sunday. High temperatures around average today for the Inland Empire will fall to around 4 to 8 degrees below average on Sunday, mostly reaching the the mid 70s to mid 80s on Sunday. There has been some patchy drizzle overnight with a few locations in Orange County reporting 0.01 inch of measurable precipitation. The marine layer will mostly be around 2500 feet deep through the weekend with night and morning coastal low clouds and fog extending into portions of the inland valleys. Onshore flow will be a little stronger into the weekend with gusty southwest to west winds for the mountains and deserts each late afternoon to late evening. The strongest gusts are expected in the northern Coachella Valley below the San Gorgonio Pass with gusts to around 50 mph with the stronger gusts in most other of the windier locations along the desert slopes of the mountains of 40 mph or less. && .LONG TERM (Monday through Thursday)... A weak upper level low pressure system centered off the coast of northern and central Baja on Monday and Tuesday may eventually move inland across southern California and northern Baja some time later in the week. Some warming is expected for Monday and Tuesday with the greater warming on Tuesday, followed by slow cooling for Wednesday and Thursday. Night and morning coastal low clouds will continue to spreading into portions of the valleys. High temperatures for the deserts will generally be around 5 degrees above average with the coast and valleys a few to around 5 degrees below average. && .AVIATION... 070930Z...Coast/Valleys...Low clouds with bases 300-700 feet MSL and tops to 2000 feet will continue to spread into most of the inland valleys by 14Z. Vis 3-6SM in BR with patchy -DZ and vis 0-3SM in FG/BR on higher coastal terrain and valleys. Clearing will occur 16- 19Z from inland toward the coast, but with very little if any clearing at the coast. Low clouds will spread inland again after 00Z with slightly higher bases/tops/vis, filling the coastal basin by early Saturday. Otherwise...mostly clear skies and unrestricted VIS today and tonight. && .MARINE... No hazardous marine conditions are expected through Tuesday. && .SKYWARN... Skywarn activation is not requested.
