Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
500 AM CDT Tue Jun 4 2024

Today:

Early morning satellite showed a swirl of clouds moving out of Kansas
into Missouri with clouds spreading into much of the southeastern
half of Iowa. A few showers were also rotating up into south central
Iowa. Otherwise, it has been a humid night with temperatures remaining
in the 60s in most cities with light winds from a southerly
direction.

A few additional showers will be possible over eastern Iowa as the
swirl of clouds lifts up into the southeastern part of the state later
this morning. The main concern for severe weather today will be as a
cold front moves into and through the state later this afternoon into
this evening. As storms fire over western Iowa along the front, large
hail and damaging wind gusts will be possible and that threat will
continue into central Iowa diminishing as the storms move into eastern
Iowa. Locally heavy rainfall may also be possible. After the storms
depart late this evening, the sky will clear.

Wednesday and beyond:

The remainder of the week into this weekend will feature more seasonal
temperatures and lower humidity that is not typical for early June.
The forecast also has a 70% chance of dry conditions through this
period as well.
