.DISCUSSION...(This Afternoon Through Monday)
Issued at 215 PM MDT Tue Jun 4 2024

Water vapor shows upper low over southern SASK with trof extending
southward through the Plains. Upper ridge covers the southwestern
CONUS with mainly zonal flow to slight ridging over the northwest
CONUS. At the surface, high is building into western SD with gusty
northwest winds. Rain showers are slowly dissipating across
south-central SD with clearing skies over our western 2/3rds of
zones.

Winds will decrease across the area this evening with cool
conditions expected overnight. Winds will increase again
Wednesday morning as another short wave rotates around the
aforementioned low over southern Canada, with a few light showers
possible in the morning across northwest SD. Advisory level winds
are expected across northwest and west-central SD with some lower
end warning winds closer to the ND border. Highs Wednesday in the
70s to near 80.

Upper ridge will amplify over the western CONUS for the end of the
work week, with dry conditions and temps near to slightly above
average. The upper ridge will flatten over the weekend with a
slightly more unsettled pattern developing across the northern
tier over the weekend into early next week. Cooler air may
filter back in for early next week as an upper low drops southeast
across Canada and into the Upper Midwest.
