Today:

Overnight shower and thunderstorm activity continues to progress
into the far southeastern reaches of the state as move into the
early morning hours. Pockets of fog have developed in the wake of
this activity, dropping visibility to a mile or less in some areas.
Overnight temperatures have ranged from the 50s in northwest Iowa to
the low 70s in the southeast.

An area of high pressure slides through the state today and will
lead to quiet and dry conditions with plentiful sunshine.
Temperatures remain above average for mid September with highs in
the 80s to near 90, although humidity levels will be a notch lower
than Thursday.

Tonight and Beyond:

Active weather returns for the weekend as a low pressure system
crosses the Plains states. Multiple rounds of scattered to
widespread showers and storms are possible Saturday. The chances for
rain continue into Sunday, mainly across the southern half of the
state. Temperatures will also cool off considerably to kick off next
week as highs fall back into the 60s, then gradually rebound back
into the 70s toward the middle to latter half of the week.
