...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 PM MDT THIS
EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...There exists a marginal risk for strong to severe
thunderstorms this afternoon across northern Utah. The first half
of the day will be dry with some scattered clouds and winds light
out of the southeast. Convection begins to develop after 1 p.m.
near the Nevada border. This convection will shift east towards
the Great Salt Lake between 3-6 p.m. with the threat persisting
through ~8 p.m. This convection will pose a threat for strong
outflow winds out of the west/northwest, given the dry low levels,
as high as 50-60 mph. Even in the lesser convectively active
scenarios, there is still ~50% chance of winds >30 mph on the west
side of the GSL. The threat for convection dramatically decreases
near sunset.

.REST OF TODAY...

Sky/weather.........Partly cloudy (30-40 percent cloud cover).
Isolated showers and thunderstorms late in the
                    afternoon.
Chance of pcpn......40 percent.
Chance of lightning.15 percent.
Max temperature.....95-97.
Min humidity........14-16 percent.
Surface winds (mph).Southeast winds 6-11 mph becoming southwest
10-13 mph late in the afternoon. Gusty outflow
winds out of the west/northwest 50-60 mph are
possible with afternoon convection with winds
most likely (50% chance) being at least >30 mph
as outflow winds push through.
