Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

Northwest winds will turn northerly by the midday with gusts of 30
mph. Light rain and snow will move into the area this evening and
continue through Saturday afternoon. Snow amounts around an inch or
less expected for the James River Valley and eastward with liquid
amounts up to 0.10", highest over and along the Sisseton Hills.
Winds will increase Saturday morning with gusts through Saturday
afternoon between 35-45 mph, highest over central SD. Lowest
relative humidity this afternoon ranges from 40 to 70%, lowest over
south central SD. Humidity will increase for Saturday afternoon
ranging from 55 to 80%.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread.  Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.


The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate to high category.

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread.  Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.


The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate to high category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.
