919 FXUS64 KAMA 070530 AFDAMA Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Amarillo TX 1230 AM CDT Tue Oct 7 2025 ...New KEY MESSAGES, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Issued at 1230 AM CDT Tue Oct 7 2025 - Scattered shower and storm chances will continue through Wednesday morning across the Panhandles. - Cooler than average temperatures are forecast for today and tomorrow with the highs today being the coolest of the next week. - Warmer and drier conditions are expected Thursday through this upcoming weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Wednesday night) Issued at 1230 AM CDT Tue Oct 7 2025 Scattered showers and isolated storms will likely be ongoing across portions of the region to start the day on Tuesday. The scattered showers may last into the early afternoon as upper level lift will aid in sustaining the showers. Widespread cloud cover will remain over the Panhandles today even in the absence of rain. Due to the cloud cover and with the Panhandles well behind a cold front, temperatures this afternoon should be below average. Current forecast highs range from the upper 50s to the lower 70s, with the warmest temperatures to the southeast. Another shortwave trough may traverse over the southern High Plains this evening through Wednesday morning providing ample lift for additional scattered showers and storms. Rainfall should end by the early afternoon hours as cloud cover clears across the area. With clearing skies, temperatures should warm back up into the 70s area wide on Wednesday afternoon. A ridge will begin to build in over the Southern Plains on Wednesday night which will lead to increasing temperatures and an end to rain chances. Muscha && .LONG TERM... (Thursday through Monday) Issued at 1230 AM CDT Tue Oct 7 2025 An H500 ridge with the center of high pressure south of the Panhandles will build in over the Great Plains late this week through the upcoming weekend. This pattern typically favors warmer temperatures and drier conditions for the region and that looks to be the case once again. Highs will warm up into the 80s with some locations reaching the low 90s during this time frame. Troughing begins to dig south across the western CONUS late this weekend into early next week which should suppress the ridge off to the east. As this occurs, a cold front may sweep south across the Plains bringing a return to more Fall like temperatures for the beginning of the next work week. Muscha && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1230 AM CDT Tue Oct 7 2025 IFR to MVFR conditions are expected for most of this TAF cycle. Rain showers and isolated storms may move over the sites with minimal impacts through 12z if not shortly afterward. Low clouds will begin to clear out towards the end of this TAF issuance and a return to VFR conditions is currently expected for all sites. Winds will initially be out of the north but will become more easterly over the next 24 hours. Winds should mainly be around 10-15 kts or less with occasional higher gusts.
