403 FXUS64 KAMA 042329 AFDAMA Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Amarillo TX 529 PM CST Thu Dec 4 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Issued at 1108 AM CST Thu Dec 4 2025 - Low chances for patchy freezing fog to reduce visibility and create slick spots for the Friday morning commute. - Drier weather settles in through next week. Temperatures look to warm back into the 50s and 60s, with the exception of cooler air returning Sunday. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Friday night) Issued at 1108 AM CST Thu Dec 4 2025 Snow has ended and skies are gradually clearing across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles this afternoon, as last night`s system translates eastward out of the forecast area. These clearing skies and light winds will be conducive for temperatures to bottom out in the teens and 20s tonight, with even light winds making it feel a few degrees cooler. If any areas are able to cool down enough to reach saturation at the surface, localized patchy freezing fog can`t be ruled out overnight into Friday morning. Hi-res guidance suggests this potential favors the northern and eastern Panhandles, with 20-50% probabilities for visibility to drop below 1 mile at times. Freezing Fog can also create slick spots on the roads, so be careful if you encounter fog during the morning commute. Friday will be a slightly warmer day with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, followed by another chilly night in the 20s. Harrel && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through next Wednesday) Issued at 1108 AM CST Thu Dec 4 2025 The synoptic pattern this weekend into next week will be characterized by northwest flow aloft, with relatively dry air masses in place. This will allow a front to draw cold air advection to the region Sunday, with highs in the 40s to low 50s. Otherwise, a warming trend is forecast with near to above average highs in the 50s and 60s each day. Overnight lows will be in the 20s and 30s. Winds will be typical for this time of year. Harrel && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 522 PM CST Thu Dec 4 2025 As of early this evening, latest satellite was seeing the current cloud cover begin to push eastward off the Panhandles with all terminals now reporting VFR conditions. However, these conditions may not last as we get into the overnight hours with multiple CAMS suggesting freezing fog may develop. At this time best chances are currently present over KDHT and KGUY tonight with around a 15 to 30% chance of seeing visibility drop below a half mile through sunrise Friday. As for KAMA, the lack of meaningful precipitation from yesterdays storms has weaken chances of fog signficantly, but it still can`t be fully ruled out. && .AMA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
