Fire Weather Forecast for Northeast and North Central Colorado
National Weather Service Denver/Boulder CO
315 PM MDT Sat Jun 15 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 6 PM MDT SUNDAY FOR
MIDDLE PARK, SOUTH PARK, THE PALMER DIVIDE AND PORTIONS OF THE
EASTERN PLAINS... FIRE ZONES 213, 214, 241, AND 245-247...

.DISCUSSION...Tonight and Sunday...Elevated to critical fire
weather conditions are likely on Sunday as well above normal
temperatures remain in place. There will likely be a bit of a
battle between the drier air advecting in from the southwest, and
a shallow cool/moist boundary over the northeastern plains. South
of this boundary humidities should fall to around 10-15% with
gusty southwesterly winds and excellent smoke dispersal, while
higher humidity and light easterly flow is likely north of the
boundary, along with fair to very good dispersal. There is some
uncertainty regarding the strength of winds during the afternoon
hours, but there is enough confidence for a Red Flag Warning
across a few zones where guidance consistently shows stronger
winds developing.

LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Sunday night through Thursday...Elevated
to critical fire weather conditions are likely on Monday afternoon
as persistent high temperatures aid in dropping relative
humidities into the low teens and single digits. Winds will
steadily increase throughout the late morning creating widespread
critical fire weather conditions with gusts near 25-35 mph for the
lower elevations, with higher gusts likely across the high
country. Highlights will be needed in the coming shifts with the
most likely impacted zones including Middle/South Parks
(FZ213/214), and across most of the foothills and lower elevations
(FZ215/216, 238-247, and 249). Zones in the northern portion of
the forecast area have recently received rainfall, and look to be
borderline on maintaining critical fire weather conditions for the
required 3 hour threshold, therefore these may not be included in
the expected upcoming highlights.

A cold front will move across the plains Tuesday which will drop
temperatures back to near normal for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Increasing moisture will help keep critical fire weather at bay
through at least mid-week.

...Thunderstorms imply strong gusty erratic winds...
...All surface winds are 20-Foot...10-Minute averaged winds...
...CWR is Chance of Wetting Rain - 0.10 inch or more liquid...
...24 HR Trends are based on averages over the respective zone
groups and may not match the actual forecast values
                    shown in those groups...
