.UPDATE...
Dry northerly flow exits over the region this evening. With snow
cover & light winds, temps have dropped quickly since sunset over
eastern valleys. Already -5F at Baker, -3F at Miles City and -2F
at Hardin as of 7pm. Have adjusted forecast lows down a few
degrees accordingly. Flow aloft is becoming anticyclonic and this
will yield warm advection and a modest increase in west winds
along the western foothills tonight. Seeing ~20 mph gusts at
Springdale now. Temps along the western foothills may have already
bottomed out before gradual warming overnight. There is an area of
fog/stratus in Carter County, and all indications are that this
will dissipate overnight with the shift to light downslope winds.

.DISCUSSION...
Through Saturday...

A surface high will continue to bring cold temperatures into
Monday morning, with lows tonight and early Monday near zero for
many locations. Then, temps will warm to mid 20s over the east to
upper 30s over the west through the day as heights build in from
the west.

A klondike chinook moving through will allow a period of gusty
winds over the western mountains and foothills late Monday into
Tuesday. Currently, there is a 40% chance of wind gusts greater
than 60 mph for the Livingston/Nye area and a 30% chance of gusts
greater than 50 mph for Harlowton and Big Timber. With these
increased winds, blowing snow may become a hazard. This will be
something to monitor.

Tuesday into Wednesday, the chance for precipitation (40-80%)
returns as a splitting trough drops in from the north. Over the
mountains, there is currently a 40-60% chance of at least 4
inches of snow during this system.

Over the plains, precip will begin as snow Tuesday morning.
However, as temps warm in the afternoon, precip may become a
rain/snow mix, particularly along river valleys, before becoming
mostly snow again in the evening. This will limit the potential
for accumulating snow over lower elevations and may bring patches
of ice to roads and sidewalks during the evening commute as
temperatures drop below freezing.

Thursday into the weekend, an unsettled pattern continues, with
multiple disturbances moving through bringing a 30-60% chance for
precip each day. Additionally, there signs for additional periods
of wind over the foothills, particularly Friday into Saturday.
More details will be added as models come into better agreement.

Highs will increase to 30s to near 40 Tuesday. Then, with the next
system moving through, highs on Wednesday will be colder, ranging
from the teens over the east to low 30s over the west. Through the
rest of the week, highs will range from 20s and 30s to 30s and 40s
depending on the timing and speed of the disturbances moving
through. Archer

.AVIATION...

Other than a small area of fog/stratus in Carter County tonight
(which should dissipate before 12z), VFR will prevail regionwide
under building high pressure aloft. SW-W winds will turn breezy
along the western foothills later tonight and Monday. Look for
25-35 knot gusts at KLVM-K6S0-KHWQ. This may cause localized
blowing snow where there is snow cover, but confidence for BLSN
affecting KLVM is low. JKL
