...Upper Midwest...
An upper-level short wave trough moving through the Great Lakes will
bring a trailing cold front into the Upper Midwest on Friday. Dry
post-frontal flow from the northwest at 10-15 mph along with
relative humidity falling into the 25-35% range will yield elevated
fire weather concerns for much of southern MN and portions of
northwest IA. Lack of substantial recent rainfall and persistently
dry fuels across the area will add to wildfire spread potential.
Elevated highlights were slightly adjusted to better identify
wind/RH alignment based on latest model guidance consensus.

...Synopsis...
A compact mid-level trough will continue to progress southeast
across the Great Lakes while a second upper trough moves further
inland from the West Coast, and upper ridging persists over the
central/southern U.S. tomorrow (Friday). Dry and breezy conditions
will accompany a surface cold front that will sweep southeastward
across the Mississippi Valley in tandem with the Great Lakes
mid-level trough. Behind the surface cold front, RH may dip into the
25-40 percent amid 15 mph sustained northwesterly surface winds for
several hours. Given dry fuels already in place, and the lack of any
recent or forecast appreciable rainfall accumulations, Elevated
highlights have been introduced. Based on the latest guidance
consensus, conditions will be most favorable for wildfire spread
over northwest Iowa into central Minnesota during the afternoon
hours on Friday.
