Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook

Valid 031200Z - 041200Z

...Synopsis...
Regional fire weather concerns are expected across portions of the
central/northern High Plains on Friday. An upper trough currently
approaching the West Coast is expected to intensify as it shifts
east into the Great Basin over the next 48 hours. In response, lee
cyclogenesis is expected across the western Dakotas with an
attendant increase in winds across much of the Intermountain West
and Great Plains. Winds will likely be stronger Friday compared to
previous days with most guidance depicting widespread sustained
winds between 15-25 mph from southern UT to northeast WY and across
the central Plains. Additionally, downslope flow off the eastern
slopes of the Rockies will promote RH reductions into the teens from
northeast NM to eastern WY/the western Dakotas while diurnal mixing
over the central/southern Plains may support areas of 20-30% RH
minimums. Although somewhat widespread elevated conditions are
possible, the best overlap of dry/windy conditions with receptive
fuels will likely reside across portions of northeast WY into
adjacent portions of MT, ND, and SD where grasses have been curing
after several days of dry and breezy conditions.
