National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
328 AM CST Mon Nov 24 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Light rain will continue mainly south of a line from Lake Andes
through Sioux Falls and Westbrook and end west to east through the
day today. Total rainfall amounts of around a tenth to a quarter
of an inch will be possible from Yankton through far northeastern
Nebraska and northwestern Iowa. Mainly dry weather is forecast
this evening before light rain returns to east central South
Dakota Tuesday. Cold air pushing in will result in rain changing
over to light snow during the daytime hours Tuesday. There is a 30
percent chance of 1 inch of snow or greater Tuesday through
Tuesday night near and north of a line from Huron to Brookings and
Marshall. Winds will increase Tuesday, with gusts of 30 to near
50 mph. Stronger winds gusting up to 60 mph will be possible over
Gregory County of south central South Dakota Tuesday. The strong
winds and little to no precipitation will result in High
Grassland Fire Danger Index values Tuesday.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the high category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
