KEY MESSAGES: 1) Rain, steady at times, will continue tonight with up to an inch of additional rainfall near the MT/ND border. Look for patchy fog as well in these areas. 2) Gusty northwest winds will develop on Friday on the backside of a departing low pressure system. A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued from 6AM to 9PM Friday. 3) Upper ridging will develop over the region for the weekend with drier and milder weather conditions. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: A deep trough and upper level low pressure system continues to lift north and east, spreading rain across eastern Montana and western North Dakota. Rain will continue, steady at times, with up to an inch of additional rainfall near the MT/ND border expected. Look for patchy fog this evening as well with associated low stratus and rain into a near saturated boundary layer. Northwest winds will ramp up on the backside of this system to the tune of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph on Friday. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect from 6am to 9pm for the Fort Peck Lake area. Another shortwave could bring light rainfall chances to southwest portions of the CWA Friday evening. Upper ridging looks to get underway this weekend for dry and milder weather before the next trough begins to deepen across the Pacific Northwest. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: NBM was largely used this forecast cycle capturing above average confidence in cool and wet weather continuing tonight, windy conditions on Friday, and drier and milder weather over the weekend. That being said, NBM90 was mixed into the fold for Friday to nudge toward the higher range of the forecast guidance for wind speeds. Pressure gradient behind the departing low pressure system merits anomalously strong winds over the region during that time. && .AVIATION...
