.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- First winter storm of the season to impact northeast Montana

- Light freezing rain possible early Monday morning before temps
  warm

- Accumulating snowfall expected Monday evening and overnight

- Wintry travel impacts possible for Thanksgiving holiday
  travelers

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

A vigorous upper trough moves through the region for Monday. A
warm front lifting across the region will bring potential for rain
and light freezing rain on Monday morning. As the warm front
pushes north through the morning hours temps will warm and the
dominant precip type will change over to all rain by the
afternoon. However some locations near the Canadian border could
see a dominant wet slushy snow precip type as temps remain cool.
Late in the afternoon the cold front will begin to move through
eastern Montana, with gusty winds. Rain will change back to snow
overnight. Accumulations look to generally be in the 1-3 inch
range with 2-4 inches over Daniels and Sheridan Counties.

Tuesday morning will see the system exiting to the east with some
lingering light snowfall across the Big Sheep Mountains east into
North Dakota. Tuesday afternoon will be cold (highs below
freezing for most locations), but the sun should peak out by the
afternoon.

Ensembles continue to indicate potential for more snow for
Thanksgiving and beyond with colder temperatures for next weekend.
There continue to be significant variations in precipitation
potential in the models and ensembles at this time.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:
Deviation from NBM are limited to increasing winds for Mondays
storm system.

Confidence for the rain/snow event Monday into Tuesday is high.
However confidence in snow amounts remains moderate with snow
amounts ranging of zero to 5 inches.

Later in the week, the model spread increases for increased
uncertainty regarding snowfall.
