Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
257 PM PDT Mon Jun 10 2024

...INCREASED RISK OF LARGE GRASS FIRES ACROSS THE ANTELOPE VALLEY
TUESDAY DUE TO GUSTY ONSHORE WINDS WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS...

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS POSSIBLE FOR SOUTHERN SANTA
BARBARA COUNTY FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY NIGHT DUE TO POTENTIAL
GUSTY SUNDOWNER WINDS WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS...

.DISCUSSION...

The deep marine layer in place this morning will become more shallow
tomorrow, decreasing cloud coverage and allowing a warming and drying
trend across the area through Tuesday. Onshore flow will be weaker today
bringing gusts of 20 to 35 mph across the Antelope Valley, then
increase Tuesday with gusts of 25 to 35 mph common and local gusts to 45
mph across the western Antelope Valley Foothills. While not occuring
the same time as the peak in winds, humidities will trend drier each day
through Tuesday with minimum humidities of 10 to 25 percent across the
Antelope Valley decreasing to 8 to 20 percent on Tuesday. Gusty onshore
winds with warm and dry conditions combined with the dry fine fuels, an
increased risk for large grass fires will continue across the Antelope
Valley Tuesday.

Elsewhere and otherwise, mild onshore conditions are expected through
Thursday with no significant fire weather impacts expected. Temperatures
will likely increase across the interior today into Tuesday, then cool
Wednesday into Thursday as a cutoff low pressure system moves into the
region. A warming and drying trend is then expected to take place Friday
into Saturday, especially across interior areas. A northerly offshore
pressure gradient is possible Friday night into Sunday night, which
could generate some gusty northerly winds of 35 to 50 mph across wind
prone locations. In particular, gusty sundowner winds with associated
warm and dry conditions will have the potential to bring some elevated
fire weather concerns to southern Santa Barbara county during that time.
