.DISCUSSION...

The warming trend remains on track through Wednesday, with a cool
down expected on Thursday and Friday. Winds will continue to be
locally gusty and westerly each afternoon to evening, with easterly
winds during each overnight period. Humidities will lower during the
peak of the heat on Tuesday and Wednesday, with both minimum
humidities and overnight recoveries decreasing through the spot
forecast period.

Looking out past the spot forecast period: remnant moisture and
instability from tropical system Mario (currently located off the
coast of southern Baja) will move into Southern California between
Wednesday and Friday. With the leading edge of the moisture surge,
there could be areas of drier thunderstorms on Wednesday, with a
higher probability of wetting storms Thursday into Friday as deeper
moisture is expected to establish. There is still considerable
uncertainty how much rainfall and lightning activity will impact the
Gifford Fire Burn Scar during this period, but the highest chances
are Wednesday night through Thursday night at this time. Any
thunderstorm that forms may produce strong gusty/erratic winds,
lightning, and brief heavy rainfall (though leaning toward minimal
risk for debris flows at this time).
